SYNOPSIS
La Distancia narrates the story of the commission, planning, and execution of an art robbery in Siberia.
TITLE
“La Distancia” is the name of the targeted artwork of the robbery.
MUSIC
The basic idea for the soundtrack was not to explicitly differentiate the music from the sound design and to integrate the dialogues in that same acoustic world.
Under this premise, sound procedures and techniques often exchanged their usual positions. The leitmotiv tool for characterisation of action, characters or places is, for instance, used from the noise’s palette and ambient sound is sometimes created with instrumental or electroacoustic music.
For the dialogue’s part, it was very helpful the fact that all the characters communicated by telepathy. The “casting” of voices was consequently performed measuring the capacity of each of the voices to transport us to the sound effect of the movie.
It is only in the long final scene that a woodwind’s orchestra (flutes, oboes, clarinets, and bassoons) accompanies the entire sequence. A final coda based on Scriabin’s mystic chord (do-fa #-sib-la-mi -re) renders homage to the theosophical interests of the non-visualised character, the creator, and owner of the place in which the action takes place. In the final credits against black, a solo piece for violin detaches itself from the sounds and dialogues that had been the core of the soundtrack.
